The Origin of Gotcha4Life
This is how it all started - the origin story of Gotcha4Life.
Gus Worland hosted a 3-part documentary on the ABC called Man Up, which is where he met Tom Harkin, founder of Tomorrow Man. The documentary challenged masculinity in this country and asked the question, why do we lose so many men to suicide.
Fast forward four years and now Gotcha4Life fundraises for Tomorrow Man and Tomorrow Woman, understanding that suicide is not a male or a female issue, it's a human issue. And working together, these two organisations are making a difference in reducing stigma, changing outdated sterotypes and building mental fitness of all Australians.
About Gotcha4Life:
Gotcha4Life is a non-for-profit foundation taking action to promote the concept of, and build, mental fitness in individuals and communities throughout Australia. To us, this means developing emotional muscle, social connection & resilience to prevent instances of poor mental health & suicide. We identify and fund programs that focus on this concept of ‘prevention through connection’.
Every year:
Over 65,000 Australians make a suicide attempt
More than eight people die each day in Australia by suicide
Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australians between 15 and 44 years of age
